Insurance has been specifically designed to cover the cost
of the penalty imposed by the Government associated with unintentional
breach of the Code of Practice for Vehicles contained within
the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999. STOWAWAY also
extends to include legal costs incurred in appealing against
the penalty.
This new
policy has been developed through an understanding of the
consequences of the tough penalties introduced by the Government.
Fixed penalties for the carriage of illegal immigrants were
introduced in April 2000 - and any driver found carrying illegal
entrants face fines of £2000 per immigrant and in certain
circumstances have their vehicle impounded, causing additional
expenditure and inconvenience.

STOWAWAY
insurance is designed to protect owners of vehicles who unknowingly
transport illegal immigrants into the UK. Provided you have
taken reasonable precautions and complied with the Code of Practice
then STOWAWAY insurance will pay the Customs and Excise penalty
as well as you legal costs incurred during the appeal process.
The insurance cover lasts for a year or until the limit is breached.
Cover
is purchased on specified vehicles which provides £10,000
of cover for penalties and £1,500 legal costs. This
means that the minimum cover of £10,000 will be sufficient
to pay for up to 5 illegal immigrants found in your truck
in any one year.
